In pursuit of material comforts, we are each of us willing, without shame, to torture the earth and the innocent creatures that dwell upon her. By endeavouring for a more spiritual way of life, we would, as a natural consequence, take the trouble to behave amicably toward the family of creation, in particular mother cow, who is so kind as to give us her milk, and father bull, who, by his strength, plows the fields in order to give us grain. Instead, we are such rascals that we prefer to misuse this gift of human intelligence in the name of advancement, and thereby cause unlimited suffering, just in order to enjoy gratuitous and meaningless pleasures which last not more than a moment in the broad expanse of eternity.
Such degraded consciousness is only possible due to the atheistic mentality which more or less grips the so-called human kind. Attempting to dispose of Krishna (God), having mischieviously ascribed to him the pain and misery we are in fact ourselves responsible for inflicting upon each other, we believe that we have paved the way clear to live out our nonsensical fantasies, each competing with the other, man against man, nation against nation, in an unending battle to become the sole supreme enjoyer of all we survey... with careless regard for the consequences.
Since we see Krishna to be opposed to our wretched dogma of self-centred happiness, we take Him to be our enemy, and thus set about trying to destroy Him. When Darwin and Dawkins talk of the selfish gene they may, surprisingly, have a point, metaphorically at least, but any sane person can see that man, unhumbled before the Lord, is on a joyride of destruction hardly in his best self-interests. It is the duty, therefore, of any intelligent being to rise above the insanity of selfishness, be it individual, national, or in terms of race or species, and accept the supremacy of the Lord, the original creator of all living beings, thus to become situated in the right consciousness of every fellow creature as brother and sister on the spiritual platform. In this way we can actually achieve happiness.
It is the humble attempt of this pedalyatra to, in some infinitessimal way, disseminate this knowledge as a service to the Lord and to all living entities. It is said that the flapping of a butterfly's wings in one part of the world can cause a hurricane in another. Whilst certainly the butterfly could not take credit, for rather such phenomena would be testament to the wonder and beauty of the creation of the Lord, nevertheless we hope to add the insignificant flapping of our wings to the fragile but growing movement to challenge, at least for some short time, the arrogant and abominable attitude of mankind, and encourage all sane and considerate people to accept their constitutional position as spirit souls, servants of the Supreme Personality Of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna.
